For some time now, Epic Meal Time has been my favourite YouTube channel and bacon-related website. It is run by a bunch of untrained chef nutters who love food that is not particularly healthy for you, but tastes and looks amazing and love more than anything my favourite food – bacon. Along with the beautiful red and brown slices of meat, they use a rather eclectic stockpile of ingredients that include the likes of breakfast sausage, cheese sticks, Irish crème whiskey, bacon grease, fast food, maple syrup, tortilla chips, cake mix, chicken hearts and waffles.
Their blog has various posts but it will come as no surprise that my favourite is the one about what in their opinion are the 5 best bacon styles, which you can click through and read here http://www.epicmealtime.com/2013/05/03/top-5-best-bacon-styles/
Their YouTube channel is jam-packed with extraordinary recipes and meals that will make you gain weight just by watching them. However, in keeping with the theme of this site, I have picked out some of my favourite bacon-related Epic Meal Time videos.
The Epic Meal Time guys are not known as being particularly subtle, so it is not surprising that when you click through to the above link, you are given what you expect. They weave bacon together to use it to wrap all the components of a burger – the beef for the patties, the cheese slices, the sauce, the bread and even the bacon itself! I am not entirely sure that any health organisation in the world would give this type of meal the OK, but it looks fantastic and by the time I had finished watching the video – I had slapped some bacon under the grill for a butty!
This is why I really like Epic Meal Time. Although I am sure that they are definitely serious about their love of fast food, greasy food and bacon food – they do all their videos with a cracking sense of humour. In this one, they recreate Santa’s sleigh with bacon and it includes candied bacon (bacon with brown sugar and cinnamon), bacon wrapping on the box, hogs instead of reindeers, bacon wrapped candy canes and so much more. There is also a handy indicator on screen that lets you know how many calories and how many grams of fat the thing has…it’s funny to see the numbers go up and up as they complete the best Christmas present ever – well, if you are a bacon lover that is!
Ok, so this video is a bit of a laugh really, still thought it was worth talking about as it shows what the guys at Epic Meal Time are like. Jamie Oliver’s Food Tube YouTube channel had its 1st birthday in January 2014 and the EMT guys got involved to show their love (or hatred) for the healthy food pusher, Mr Oliver. It is juvenile but quite funny all the same!
